Today, I experienced what it is like when I am treated like a person from a company, and then was pulled back down when I was treated like a revenue source from another.
First the good: Starbucks
I know there are many Starbucks loathers out there, but I am not one of them. Today as I was walking down Newbury Street, I was happy to see the Starbucks. My entire experience was fabulous. The people working behind the counters were friendly. How Starbucks manages to staff people who actually seem to like their job is a true accomplishment. I was greeted with a smile & 90 seconds later a perfect tall latte was waiting for me. From the location to the customer service to the product, I was completely satisfied.
From the Ugly: US Airways
Only three hours later, I had a completely different experience with US Airways. US Airways has no customer experience and I definitely had no feeling like they actually cared about me. From trying to change my plane ticket (US Airways technology wouldn’t allow me to do it online, I had to call and wait for an agent - get with the times!) to charging me to select a seat while checking in for my flight, I was dissatisfied. I couldn’t believe it: US Airways charges $15 to select a seat anytime prior to arriving at the airport. I know they constantly battle with bankruptcy, but I completely disagree with this monetization strategy. I haven’t even gotten on the plane yet, but I am sure that experience isn’t going to enhance my image of USAirways. I think this may be my last flight with them for a while.
